Seryn is a 5-piece band who calls Denton, Texas their home. When listening to the well-layered textures of guitars, ukulele, accordion, bass, viola, banjo and various percussion, it's hard to imagine This Is Where We Are is the band's debut effort.

Dan Ostebo is approaching his four-year anniversary as bassist for The Afters, a chart-topping Christian rock band hitting the road this fall with Casting Crowns and Sanctus Real for a 40-city tour. Read as Dan talks music, faith, family and fun.

We try to operate and live in the reality that everything is a gift we don’t deserve. There are endless pieces of evidence of God’s grace throughout our journey both as a band and as people. That allows us to play music and write songs with the freedom to know it’s not about us.

Music has been in my blood for most of my life. I started studying jazz at four years old, but I didn’t really dive into it professionally until I was 21. I was recording in a Dallas studio one night in 2001 when a guy by the name of Tech Huffman approached me.

We roast coffee… great coffee.  In industry terms, we are a direct trade micro-roaster.  But the business itself is built upon relationships.  The majority of the coffee we roast is purchased directly from a producer, with whom we have a relationship. 

It began with just a few friends who wanted to get together and share their art with each other and to also let their art have a charitable impact. We put on a small event for just us, and loved it so much that we decided to do it again, and again, and then four events later we realized this was bigger than us.

Shaun Menary, a brilliant local photographer, captures images with his camera not only beautifully, but in such a way that the image forces you into an experience with itself.  Graduating from Sam Houston University with a degree in photography, Shaun and his best friend Aaron Cave started a t-shirt company, Randomshirts.com.

I get the opportunity to work with people who host events for things they’re passionate about and figure out creative ways to get other people who share that passion to join them.  I love the fact that people, regardless of their experience or skills, can connect with other friends (new and old) to create community.

Cameron Ernst, an emerging artist in our own backyard, writes music filled with passion and sincerity that obviously stems from the depths of his soul. Though originally from Kansas, he began his career in college at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, and then soon found himself placed in the great city of Dallas, Texas.

Vanessa Warren, the owner of Butterfly Sparks (a graphic design and creative styling company built to connect entrepreneurs and artists with photographers for brand make up), is a native of Dallas and graduated from SMU with a degree in advertising.
